Fairy tales versus real life?

Yahoo! News - Fairy tales linked to violent relationships Haven't blogged much lately - been too busy with real life, including a nasty bout with poison ivy. But this little gem caught my eye. According to this British researcher, if we read "Beauty and the Beast" or "Cinderella"to our daughters, they'll grow up to marry monsters thinking they can change them into handsome princes. God forbid, then, we read "King Arthur" to our sons. They might grow up thinking that they have an obligation to defend the women in their life.

I see that wives being submissive is treated as equivalent to wives being abused. It would then follow that the Bible teaches spousal abuse. Nice.

BTW, I wonder if a future study will show any behavioral effects of children watching Shrek.

I was just reading in G.K. Chesterton's Orthodoxy last night about how fairy tales are beautiful pictures of biblical truth. Cinderella = humble thyself in the sight of the Lord and He shall lift you up. Sleeping Beauty - death changed to temporary sleep and awakening by the power of love. And of course- Beauty and the Beast - the thing has to be loved in order to become lovable. (in that - while we were yet sinners -Christ died for us) Interesting take isn't it? I was thinking of blogging about it.
